Elementor #3458

It takes us all to combat food insecurity.

Join us on October 5 and together we will equip, empower and inspire each other!

The number of Canadians experiencing food insecurity grew by nearly 1.8 million in the last year, affecting 1 in 4 people. That’s 8.7 million people who can’t regularly afford food.

In our community, we see the reach of this firsthand. 1 in 7 households in Ottawa (14.8%) are food insecure*.

At Parkdale Food Centre, we know that food banks and free meals one meal doesn’t solve food insecurity. To address this complex issue, we need to work together as one community and we need systemic change.

How we’re building stronger healthier communities

Our holistic approach equips, empowers and inspires our Neighbours, allowing us to address the root cause of food insecurity – poverty.

Neighbours can access food through our…

…Community Kitchen

Our Community Kitchen is where we gather to cook, make friends, build confidence, celebrate milestones and share meals with our Neighbours. Everyone, no matter their background, is welcome to sit at our table and connect with their Neighbours.

…Mino’Weesini Grocery Program

Our Grocery Program gives Neighbours agency and the power of choice. Unlike a traditional food bank, Neighbours shop as they would at a grocery store, choosing what they need for themselves, their families and their household.

Neighbours work with us to create meaningful change through our…

…Community Advocacy Program

Poverty is not only the root cause of food insecurity, it impacts many areas of one’s life. Through our Community Advocacy Program, we provide one-on-one support, helping Neighbours access and navigate social services. Together, we build upon their advocacy and leadership skills to create more equitable social and political systems.

…Growing Futures Youth Program

Our Growing Futures Youth Program inspires youth to harness their power as community builders and leaders (as we call them, Solutionaries). By creating youth connections and discussing systemic inequalities, we identify their advocacy goals and how they can take action in their community.

How you can get involved

The Right to Food is about ensuring that all people – regardless of their circumstances, whether they are isolated or in a community with others – have physical and economic access to adequate food at all times.

Despite Canada’s wealth and many resources, the Right to Food has not been realized for millions of people.

It will take us all, working together and demanding change, to realize this Right for everyone in our community.
